Research Group Expertise:

The research group “Epidemiology, prevention, and control of cancer” is part of the Biomedical Research Institute ibs.GRANADA in Granada, Spain. Our group is based at the Andalusian School of Public Health (EASP) and is also a member of the Spanish excellence research consortium CIBER of Epidemiology and Public Health (CIBERESP).
Our group is highly multidisciplinary, including scientists specializing in medical oncology, cancer epidemiology and prevention, biostatistics and data science, environmental epidemiology, nutrition, pharmacy, genomics, health economics, public health, and social and behavioral sciences, including psychology.
We have actively participated in numerous European projects, including PROPHET, JARC, EUROCARE, CONCORD, BENCHISTA, ACCIS, RARECARE, EUROCHIP, EPIC-CVD, MAPPING, INTERACT, and the European Cancer High-Resolution Studies. We are also part of the European Prospective Investigation into cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) Study (521.000 participants). Within EPIC, we coordinate the EPIC-Spain cohort (>41.000 participants). Currently, we also coordinate the roll-out of the new Spanish IMPaCT Cohort in Andalusia (200.000 individuals), part of the Precision Medicine Infrastructure of the Health Institute Carlos III. Additionally, we lead a pioneering research program in Spain dedicated to characterizing socio-economic inequalities in cancer, funded by the Spanish Association against Cancer, among others.

The pain research line in our group is led by the following Principal Investigators:
