Open Innovation Opportunity

Project Proposal

Call: HORIZON-CL5-2025-04-D5-04 (2ZERO Partnership)
Proposal Deadline: 4 September 2025 | Funding Envelope: €7 million

The University of Greenwich is currently developing a proposal in response to the upcoming Horizon Europe call HORIZON-CL5-2025-04-D5-04, titled “Extended lifetime of road Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV)”, under the 2ZERO Partnership. The project aims to deliver cutting-edge innovations that improve the durability and sustainability of BEV drive systems across their operational lifecycle.

Project Focus: This call targets BEV electric drive components from a system integration perspective, particularly under high combined operational loads. Specific attention is given to:

- Thermal management systems
- Power electronics
- Ageing and degradation at pack and module level (excluding battery cell level)

Project Objectives
- Develop tools and models to assess and predict the ageing and degradation of BEV components.
- Design and validate extended-lifetime concepts for BEV drive systems, with a target of 20% increase in residual value.
- Implement prospective/prescriptive maintenance strategies, along with digital product passports and circular economy practices (reuse, remanufacturing, recovery).
-Showcase results via laboratory validation and field testing with fleet operators.

Partner Search – Our Collaboration Needs: We are particularly interested in engaging with partners who can provide technologies, data, or practical expertise in the following domains:

- Thermal management and power electronics
- Sensor technology and real-world fleet data analysis
- Component design with a focus on repairability, upgradability, and circularity

If your organisation works in any of these areas and is interested in contributing to a high-impact European Research and Innovation Action (RIA), we would welcome the opportunity to collaborate with you.
