KNEIA is seeking a project coordinator and partners to participate in the EUROBIOME-HUB project to establish a coherent, integrated, and forward-looking EU-wide coordination framework that strengthens, aligns, and leverages microbiome research and innovation across all relevant domains. Through the creation of a dedicated EU Microbiome Coordination Hub, the project will consolidate existing knowledge, support regulatory harmonisation, and facilitate structured collaboration between European and international initiatives.
TOPIC: “HORIZON-CL6-2026-02-FARM2FORK-12: Leveraging R&I knowledge on microbiome” indicates: “Microbiome research, adopting a holistic approach through a One Health perspective, has gained traction recently but research remains fragmented and there is a need for a coordination body that monitors research in this sector and steer research efforts in a strategical direction. (…) Proposals should address all the following activities: 1) establishment of a hub acting as a resource centre and a monitoring body of the microbiome R&I and regulatory landscape; (…) 2) mapping of all ongoing and past EU-based microbiome projects, EU research and technology infrastructures, and EU initiatives (public and private); identify overlaps, synergies, and gaps across all microbiome domains notably to inform future funding and policy directions; 3) collaborating with relevant ongoing initiatives (…); 4) monitoring and assessing the microbiome R&I impact on the population, the environment, biodiversity, the EU economy and competitiveness through specific indicators targeting EU and national policies priorities with an emphasis on One Health principles and across all microbiome types”.
The outcomes of the project will contribute to strengthening the European microbiome research ecosystem by fostering a more coordinated, efficient, and strategically aligned landscape. This enhanced coordination will support policy alignment and regulatory harmonisation, enabling more coherent research agendas and facilitating the translation of microbiome knowledge into societal, environmental, and economic impacts. Furthermore, the project will contribute to the implementation of key EU strategies, including the Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Initiative, the EU Life Science Strategy, the Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, and the Zero Pollution Action Plan, ensuring that microbiome research is closely aligned with Europe’s overarching policy and sustainability objectives.
