Seeking Partners for CL6-2025-02-CLIMATE-03: Agricultural challenges from shifting climatic zones and agroecological environments
Can act as:
Seeking expertise:
We are seeking partners to form or join a consortium for the Horizon Europe call HORIZON-CL6-2025-02-CLIMATE-03, which focuses on understanding and managing medium- and longer-term challenges and opportunities for agriculture stemming from shifting climatic zones and changing agroecological environments.
As a Canada Research Chair and Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba, my research team explores climate change adaptation in agriculture using machine learning, Earth Observation, and geospatial data integration. I bring extensive experience working across North America, Africa, and Europe, and supporting food security systems through scientific innovation.
Our Expertise and Experience
• PI of HarvestStat-Africa, a harmonized subnational crop statistics database covering 30+ countries
• 10+ years of experience using climate and EO datasets (e.g., CHIRPS, SMAP, Sentinel-2, MODIS, VIIRS) for crop yield forecasting and climate risk assessment
• Former science team member and collaborator with the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) on food insecurity monitoring tools in Africa
• Expertise in agro-drought projection, climate change impact assessment, AI/ML-based crop yield prediction, and policy-relevant dashboard development
We are particularly interested in leading or contributing to:
• Mapping climate-driven agroecological shifts using EO and climate projections (e.g., CMIP6, Copernicus)
• Modelling future crop suitability and yield under shifting climatic zones
• Developing ML/AI tools for forecasting yield, drought stress, and pest risk
• Designing dynamic sustainability and resilience indicators at the subnational scale
• Creating farmer-facing and policymaker dashboards for scenario exploration and adaptation planning
• Integrating local knowledge and field data with large-scale modeling frameworks
We are open to joining an existing consortium or co-developing a new one. Ideal partners include:
• EO & agroecosystem modelers
• Climate impact researchers (with scenario expertise)
• Socioeconomic or governance researchers
• NGOs or government bodies working in climate-smart agriculture and adaptation
If you’re interested in collaborating, please reach out via Crowdhelix or email me directly at [email protected]
Let’s build a strong, transdisciplinary team to address the future of agriculture under climate uncertainty.
