The call HORIZON-CL6-2024-CircBio-02-1-two-stage has been scheduled to close, so this opportunity is no longer current.

We aim to partner in consortiums under HORIZON-CL6-2024-CircBio-02-1-two-stage: Circular solutions for textile value chains through innovative sorting, recycling, and design for recycling.

Our group at (University College Cork) is equipped with a microwave infrastructure, comprising multiple reactors of multiple vacuum and temperature systems that are optimized for textile recycling. We offer expertise in textile recycling and product characterizations, we have extensive experience in using microwaves as an energy source, which substantially reduces the amount of time and energy required for textile recycling. We have been using cheap and non-toxic solvents (or solvent mixture), that can be easily separated and recovered. Our microwave process is faster than most current methods for chemical recycling textiles, i.e. minutes vs hours, which reduces energy consumption, and subsequently, recycling costs. The decolored cotton fibers and PET obtained as recycled products can be used to produce new textiles.
Moreover, we recently developed an energy-efficient and clean chemical process that can recycle post-consumer and industrial textile waste using microwave energy, avoiding landfilling and incineration, which is environmentally and economically attractive.

We have been carrying out multidisciplinary advanced research efforts, we brought together researchers with expertise in textile and plastic recycling, advanced materials, and nano-technology to develop applications for the packaging, environmental, construction, electronic, and agricultural industries.
