FIBAO - Foundation for Biomedical Research in Eastern Andalusia Alejandro Otero
FIBAO is a non-profit foundation specializing in the management of biomedical research for the Andalusian Public Health System. The foundation supports biomedical research groups and facilitates the transfer of research results to industry and society. FIBAO offers a comprehensive platform of services covering the entire value chain of biomedical research, from discovery to application in healthcare.
Key Facts:
• Institutes Managed: iBS.Granada Research Centre, Hospitals in Eastern Andalusia.
• Researchers and Patients: FIBAO hosts around 500 researchers and provides services to approximately 8,000 patients annually through its associated hospitals and research centres.
• Management expertise: wide experience in managing research projects and organization and management of clinical trials.
Research Group Expertise:
We are a young and enthusiastic group with a desire to do high-quality research. In 2008 we started a pioneering line of research focused on oncological physiotherapy in the survival stage. We recollected a battery of tests and clinical questionnaires to assess the physical health of people with cancer and characterize the profile of survivors of breast, colorectal and head and neck cancer. Subsequently, we develop intervention programs focused on therapeutic exercise (our main expertise) and recovery techniques for sequelae and localized dysfunctions. We transferred this experience to the stage during treatments and at the time of diagnosis, expanding our objective from a rehabilitative perspective to a broader and more preventive one. Health assessments and interventions with physical exercise and recovery techniques are carried out in face-to-face and online formats. These have given us extensive experience in the development of apps, intervention programs and assessments in online format.
More specifically, we carry out evaluations of cardiorespiratory capacity (with continuous treadmill stress tests), strength (dynamometry, isokinetics and clinical tests), flexibility, balance, coordination, body composition and the most prevalent symptoms in oncology (fatigue, pain, depression, sleep, etc.).On the other hand, we have experience in face-to-face programs (on land and in the aquatic environment) and online in which cardiorespiratory capacity, strength, flexibility, balance, motor control, etc. are worked on, aimed at improving and preventing the impact of cancer at the level of different toxicities (cardiac, muscular, bone, nervous, etc.).
Possible Involvement in the project:
Our group has the possibility of patient recruitment, assessing the physical health of patients with a wide repertoire of cutting-edge devices, the possibility of data analysis and processing and scientific writing.
