Project Proposal
Seeking international collaborators for HORIZON-CL4-2025-02-SPACE-32 call
Can act as:
Seeking expertise:
Profen's in-house R&D Center presents the most promising capability to significantly contribute to the call.
The Embedded Systems Group, with its expertise in hardware design, embedded software, and digital design, including kernel-level Linux development, 10+ layers of hardware design, signal processing, and custom FPGA IP core design, is exceptionally well-suited to address the call's emphasis on "R&I on on-board processing to optimize EO missions’ performance or timeliness" and the maturation of "high-performance processing payload H/W". This allows Profen to develop advanced on-board computing capabilities, crucial for integrating AI/Machine Learning and optimizing data processing directly on satellites. Complementing this, the Software Development Group, responsible for the Visionic monitoring and control software platform, can ensure seamless integration into terrestrial networks and support the development of standardized software frameworks for embedded edge-computing applications. This combined strength in advanced hardware development and intelligent software solutions, alongside Profen's facilities for integration and prototyping, positions the company to deliver innovative and high-TRL digital building blocks for both Earth Observation and Satellite Communication systems, contributing directly to increased performance, new commercial services, and optimized data flow for global, flexible, and reactive space-based applications.
Also, RF and Microwave Group possesses the in-house capability to conduct analyses, design, prototype development, production, and testing of passive and active communication components across a wide range of frequency bands, including S, X, Ku, Ka, Q, and V, at both system and subsystem levels. Their activities specifically include antenna design (reflector, waveguide array, conformal, reflectarray, phased array, microstrip antennas), microwave circuit design (LNA, LNB, SSPA, frequency downconverter, frequency upconverter), frequency selective surface design, RF rotary joint design, radar component design, communication system design, and link budget analysis. This comprehensive expertise directly addresses the call's need for "R&I on End-to-End SatCom Mission capabilities" by enabling the development of advanced satellite network interconnectivity and efficient connectivity using various technologies, including reconfigurable payloads. Furthermore, their proficiency in electromagnetic test, measurement, and verification, alongside PCB circuit diagram creation and layout drawing, provides the foundational technical depth required for "R&I on EO-related equipment and instruments digitalization," such as the miniaturization and enhancement of European optical digital detectors. By focusing on these core RF and microwave capabilities, Profen can deliver critical technological advancements for both satellite communication and Earth observation systems, leading to high-performance, European-made components that bolster the EU's space sector competitiveness and reduce strategic dependencies.
