Project Proposal
Seeking international collaborators for HORIZON-CL4-2025-02-SPACE-31 call
Can act as:
Seeking expertise:
Profen's in-house R&D Center represents the most promising capability for significant contributions to the call.
The Embedded Systems Group’s prominent competencies include kernel-level Linux development, complex hardware design (10+ layers), signal processing, and custom FPGA IP core design. This expertise directly addresses the call's emphasis on "R&I on breakthrough digitalization steps" such as "mature miniaturised instruments design - including their digitalized on-board processing electronics" for affordable EO constellations and "maturation of high-performance processing payload H/W". Complementing this, the Software Development Group has developed the Visionic monitoring and control software platform, which contributes to digital transformation by supporting IoT-based data analytics, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing disciplines. This enables Profen to deliver "AI algorithms, high performance cloud-based architectures" for on-board and ground processing. The combined strength of these groups allows Profen to develop high-performance processing payloads and sophisticated software functions for reconfigurability, directly enhancing the value of end-to-end EO and SatCom systems and fostering new commercial services through increased digitalization of space solutions.
Also, Profen's RF and Microwave Group possesses the comprehensive in-house expertise to conduct analyses, design, prototype development, production, and testing of passive and active communication components across a wide range of frequency bands, including S, X, Ku, Ka, Q, and V, at both system and subsystem levels. Their specific activities, such as antenna design (reflector, waveguide array, conformal, reflectarray, phased array, microstrip antennas) and microwave circuit design (LNA, LNB, SSPA, frequency downconverter, frequency upconverter) , directly address the call's need for "R&I on End-to-End SatCom Mission capabilities" by enabling the development of advanced and innovative components like "new generation antennas" and the "exploitation of higher bands" for strengthening efficient connectivity. Furthermore, their proficiency in frequency selective surface design, RF rotary joint design, radar component design, communication system design, and link budget analysis allows for the creation of foundational "building blocks" essential for improving SatCom performances. Crucially, their capabilities in electromagnetic test, measurement, and verification, alongside PCB circuit diagram creation and layout drawing, are directly relevant to "R&I on breakthrough digitalized technology steps" concerning "RF back-ends and front-ends" for advanced Earth Observation payloads. This specialized focus on RF and microwave hardware, supported by Profen's integration and prototyping ateliers , allows the company to develop critical, low to mid TRL components that foster European non-dependence and strengthen competitiveness in the global space market.
