The Vascular and Renal Translational Research Group specializes in vascular and kidney diseases, with a particular focus on the progression of chronic kidney disease and its cardiovascular complications.
The group has led the ILERVAS study, designed to assess the prevalence of subclinical conditions, such as atheromatosis, occult kidney disease, prediabetes, and diabetes, in a middle-aged population at low-to-moderate cardiovascular risk.
This study enhances cardiovascular risk assessment by identifying subclinical atheromatosis and characterizing its vascular distribution and severity. Using vascular ultrasound, it detects arterial plaques in carotid and femoral arteries. Moreover, it evaluates modifiable risk factors and prevention strategies, including lifestyle habits, adherence to the Mediterranean diet, and chronic conditions such as dyslipidemia, hypertension, and diabetes.
The findings from ILERVAS provide valuable insights for a consortium applying to this call. By leveraging their expertise and robust dataset, the group can contribute to assessing environmental determinants of cardiovascular health and shaping effective prevention strategies to improve public health outcomes.
