Open Innovation Opportunity

Project Proposal

The DISVA – Section of Animal Biology and Ecology, Laboratory of Freshwater Ecology at the University of Cagliari (Italy) is seeking to join a consortium for the Horizon Europe call
HORIZON-CL6-2026-02-FARM2FORK-08: “Advancing basic knowledge and developing tools for sustainable management of key migratory fish species.”
We offer advanced expertise on the distribution and population dynamics of the European eel (Anguilla anguilla) in Sardinian rivers, along with a long-term dataset on glass eel recruitment.
The island of Sardinia, strategically located in the central–western Mediterranean, provides an optimal setting to evaluate both recruitment processes and spawning migrations of adult eels.
Our contribution to large-scale in situ biodiversity observations includes experience with innovative monitoring methods and a deep understanding of local fisheries and productive contexts.
We also actively support the development of management tools, conservation strategies, and modelling approaches, as well as new initiatives in Sardinia for tagging and releasing silver eels at sea.
Our team engages with local stakeholders and promotes citizen science and multi-actor collaboration to support adaptive and sustainable management practices.
If you are building a consortium and are looking for experienced partners in eel ecology, freshwater biodiversity monitoring, and migratory fish management, we would be pleased to collaborate.
We are open to partnerships and joint proposal development.
