Project Proposal

Dr. Irene Mussio is an interdisciplinary researcher with expertise in behavioural science, focusing on environmental health topics. Her work aligns closely with the objectives of HORIZON-HLTH-2026-01-ENVHLTH-01, as her research focuses on understanding how environmental determinants affect physical, mental health, and social wellbeing, with a strong emphasis on policy-relevant evidence generation. She leverages her expertise to focus on issues related to at-risk populations, who are exposed to the impacts of climate change in Vietnam, India, Bangladesh and the UK, among other countries. She is also the co-director of the Healthy Buildings Network (HBNLeeds).

Dr. Mussio brings extensive experience in applied environmental health research methods with a focus on quantitative approaches, including economic experiments and economic valuation. She has led and contributed to nationally and internationally funded research projects, working closely with academic, governmental, and industry stakeholders.

She offers strong management skills, experience coordinating interdisciplinary teams, and wide-ranging international networks across environmental science, public health, economics, and policy. Dr. Mussio is well positioned to contribute as a partner or Work Package leader, particularly in tasks related to exposure assessment, health impacts, evaluation methods, and translation of research into policy and practice.

Building on this work, Dr. Mussio is actively seeking interdisciplinary partnerships (partners/consortia) with researchers and practitioners in environmental science, exposure modelling, clinical and population health, social sciences, data science, and policy implementation. She is particularly interested in collaborations that integrate methodological innovation with real-world evidence and stakeholder engagement, in order to strengthen the relevance, scalability, and impact of research outcomes under this call.
