Pathways to cross-sectoral and intra-sectoral talent mobility and circulation & talent acceleration through up-skilling and re-skilling for research and innovation professionals in research, entrepreneurial and other transferable skills
Background
Talent Helix aims to empower research and innovation (R&I) professionals, especially those in the early stages of their careers, to become the next generation of leaders in European R&I. In collaboration with key network members, the Helix focuses on enhancing skills, promoting mobility, and encouraging cross-sector collaboration. It offers a structured pathway designed to accelerate talent development and support sustainable professional growth.
Talent Helix addresses significant challenges in research talent management, including reskilling and upskilling in areas such as sustainability, project management, technology transfer, intellectual property rights, open science, data management, entrepreneurship, research ethics and integrity, risk management, and digital skills. It also promotes the mobility of R&I staff to facilitate knowledge exchange, mitigate brain drain, and enhance career attractiveness. By fostering cooperation between academia and industry, the Helix aims to bridge gaps in R&I services, strengthen technology transfer capabilities, and improve knowledge circulation across sectors.
Through its key projects, the Helix will help build a critical mass of highly skilled human resources, enhance employability, strengthen institutional support systems, and connect research outputs with practical applications.
The Helix serves as the central hub for disseminating impactful research results, fostering collaboration and networking, and providing R&I communities with continuous access to international networks, knowledge exchange opportunities, and collaborative environments. Talent Helix strengthens Europe’s research ecosystem and advances the circular economy through innovation and talent development.
Key Project: Talent Pass
Fostering European Talents for Widening Circular Economy
Europe’s drive towards a sustainable, circular economy could falter without stronger collaboration and easier movement for researchers. The Talent Pass consortium has geographic diversity that ensures a comprehensive approach to R&I, blending different levels of expertise, building a critical mass of skilled professionals equipped to turn research into real-world solutions, and creating a rich environment for collaboration across diverse backgrounds. The EU-funded Talent Pass project focuses on strengthening R&I capabilities of widening countries' institutions, ensuring they are on par with leading European entities. This will be achieved through strategic use of research resources (human, know-how, infrastructure) to foster capacity-building initiatives, targeted training, and secondment programmes addressing current and future challenges in the circular economy. This ensures that no region is left behind in Europe’s green transition.
